Royal Afternoon Tea at Excelsior Hotel Ernst in Cologne, Germany

As some of you might know, I have recently visited Cologne for a romantic weekend break with my husband. We decided to book an Afternoon Tea experience inspired by Pierre Hermé.

Location:

Pierre Hermé’s Afternoon Tea is exclusively available at Excelsior Hotel Ernst. The hotel is situated in the historic Old Town center of Cologne.

IMG_2687

Times:

Afternoon Tea is served daily from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. It is very popular so you should reserve your table in advance.

Atmosphere:

We were staying at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst and as we wanted to do some sightseeing during the day we booked it for 5 p.m. The Afternoon Tea is served in the Piano Bar as well as a lounge area overlooking the cathedral. We were welcomed by a smiley Tea Master who kindly took us to our table.

The atmosphere was charming and offered us a romantic setting to our Afternoon Tea experience. I loved its chic and elegant décor. There was relaxing music playing in the background. Our Tea Master was friendly and exceptionally attentive.

The menu:

Once we were seated, we were given a tea menu and we started assessing our Afternoon Tea options. We started our Afternoon Tea with a glass of Duval Leroy Brut Champagne and ordered some Green Tea and Jasmin Pearls teas afterwards.

A few minutes after we finished sipping our delicious Champagne our stand of sweet and savoury treats arrived.

IMG_2896

I loved how they were all presented.

Last week, I went for a romantic weekend break to Cologne in Germany with my husband. We decided that it would be nice to treat ourselves and stay at the 5* Excelsior Hotel Ernst. The hotel is the only member of “The Leading Hotels of the World” in Cologne.

When we arrived back, our room was ready and we were taken to it by another friendly receptionist-Marc.

Our room was elegant, spacious, bright and stylish. It was furnished with soft carpets, spacious desk, modern armchairs and a very comfortable bed.

In the corridor we had a large wardrobe and safe.

In addition, the room was equipped with the best equipment available:

2017 Summer Wishlist

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you’re having a great weekend!

My day started with 1 hour of super intense Orangetheory workout followed by a healthy brunch with my personal trainer Livone. It was great to catch up with her and enjoy this beautiful weather. It was over 22C degrees and it feels like spring has most definitely begun.

As the weather improves, I started to think about my summer 2017 wishlist. So what am I going to get in preparation for the next season?

1.MAHI Classic Leather Tote Bag

I recently came across MAHI leather bags. All MAHI bag are made to order and come complete with a complimentary dust cover, personalised embroidery and 30 day money-back guarantee. I really liked the look of this Classic Tote and when I discovered that I can have my initials embroidered on it, I put it on my summer wishlist:

I love leather bags as if you look after them they can last for a very long and they are timeless accessory. The relaxed and stylish Classic Tote from MAHI is a perfect solution for storing all my essential items. The bag looks like is large enough to use it daily for work and comfortably fit my laptop, cosmetic bag and it could also be a compact practical option to fit all my essentials for overnight stays at my in-laws houses.
Mahi
In addition, MAHI donates $1.50 from the sale of each bag to FRANK Water Projects-UK based charity which has helped over 300,000 people gain access to clean water since 2005, which is great as still millions of people lack safe and drinkable water.
2. A perfect dress for my friend’s weddings
In August I have 2 weddings to attend. Both of them will taking place abroad-one of them in Israel and the second one in Poland. As a result, I need to get a couple of elegant and summery dresses. I saw a couple of dresses that I really liked but haven’t bought any yet.
First outfit which I really liked was from Coast:
coast
The top is absolutely beautiful but I would probably want to combine it with a lighter skirt as it might be a bit too hot to have a floor-length skirt. I would probably combine it with this Sparkle Iridessa Hi Low Skirt:
skirt
Or alternatively I am also considering this Elisha dress from ChiChi:
chichi
This mini dress is heavily embroidered and has a fitted bodice with a sweetheart neckline. I really like how girly it looks:
If you have any other suggestions than please email me.
3. STM rucksack
As I am travelling on business a lot, I decided that I need to protect my phone and surface more as I always end up smashing my devices… I recently ordered a great DUX Microsoft Surface protector and I really like it:
stm-dux-surface-pro-4-blue-back-angle-standing-keyboard_1
As a result, I now I decided that I really need to get a summery rucksack and STM offers a wide range of laptop accessories. They do not only protect your goods but they also look great and come in a variety of colors. I really like the look of this Grace Pack in Dark Purple:
packpurple6-compressor
I am definitely looking forward to my summer shopping and will probably get more than the items on this wishlist but that is a start of my summer planning 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

L’Escalier Restaurant in Cologne, Germany

Last week, we traveled to Cologne in Germany. Cologne’s range of eating establishments is extremely diverse and tourists have over 3,000 restaurants to choose from including a handful of top restaurants that have been awarded one or even two Michelin stars. During the first day of our stay we decided to have our lunch at L’Escalier restaurant by Maximilian Lorenz that have been awarded with 1 Michelin Star and 16 Gault & Millau points.

IMG_2565

Location:

L’Escalier restaurant is based on a quiet Brüsseler street so it is perfect if you wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Atmosphere:

At first glance, L’Escalier restaurant looks like many other eateries however if you go inside you’ll discover that the restaurant has very modern and intimidate surroundings. Restaurant can host up to 32 diners at once and in the summer it also has 16 additional sits outside. Private dining or events are available upon request.

IMG_2848

We booked our table for 12:30 p.m. When we entered the restaurant, we were welcomed by a friendly waitress -Michelle who took us to our table. Once we were seated, she recommended us a glass of champagne-it was divine.

The decor of L’Escalier restaurant is exclusive, modern and sophisticated.

Throughout our meal there was soft, romantic music playing in the background.

IMG_2967Menu:

Guests dining at this fine-dining Michelin star restaurant have an opportunity to select from the A La Carte Menu as well as a few selected tasting menus. If you are looking for a great food which is out of the ordinary and completely different then you should try it. We decided to order the 7-course tasting menu ‘Innovation’.

The first dish we had was small incitement. It was made using crustacean espuma, North sea crab, amaranth, watercress, herring, red onion, topinambour, comté, pine nuts, citrus dressing, wels catfish, cabbage and black cumin.

IMG_2969

For second dish we had was German ‘Vitello Tonato’ made with pork loin, trout, cucumber and yellow dandelion.

For third course was Breton Mackarel made with some tomato, apple dressing and leeks.

IMG_2973

Next we had some wild broccoli with chicken giblets, hazelnut and chicorée.

IMG_2972

Following from that we had one of the signature dishes-Norwegian Scalop on a marrow bones with some young garlic and lovage.

IMG_2974

To clean our palate we received some refreshing Green Apple tonic water with celery.

For our main course we had some calf’s head that was served with a side of peas,  snow pea pods and asparagus.

IMG_2599

For my dessert we had some mouth-watering rhubarb cake with some bourbon vanilla and buckwheat.

IMG_2601

The meal ended with a selection of petit fours.

IMG_2975

All dishes were delicious and presented beautifully. I could even describe them as rather Instagram-friendly. After our dessert and petit fours Maximilian Lorenz came over to ask us if we enjoyed our food and we talked for a couple of minutes about his background, inspiration behind the dishes and the ingredients he sources for his dishes.

We had an amazing dinning experience at L’Escalier restaurant. All of the dishes we tried were delicious, creative and featured regional products. If you are looking for a fine-dining experience based on the best quality, locally sourced ingredients then you should look no further. The service was great and the food was delectable so we will definitely be returning there next time we are in Cologne.

Holiday destinations: Riga, Latvia

I have recently visited Riga for 3 days with my husband. It is the capital and the largest city of Latvia and by means of 696,593 inhabitants (2015), Riga is the largest city of the Baltic states and home to one third of Latvia’s population. The city lies at the mouth of the Daugava and is frequently described as the pearl of the Baltics.

12002621_10207468447700092_3278540361728432726_o11731973_10207468339697392_3152501055049980138_o11958286_10207468339337383_4793973602959405351_o12006568_10207468348977624_2253817533658532409_o

We really enjoyed our romantic walks around Riga’s historical centre which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There were also a plenty of local bars to visit and some traditional restaurants that served some tasty, local dishes.

It is definitely worth visiting if you decide to travel to Eastern Europe. Flight from London is just over 2 hours so it is a great destination for a short (& cheap) weekend break.

I hope you enjoyed reading this review.

BARREtoned classes in Notting Hill studio, London

I am on a mission to transform my body in 8-weeks. As my personal trainer once said: ‘to maximise your results you need to balance your diet and exercise’. I ordered my 8-week body plan and decided to join BARREtoned studio in Notting Hill in London. I attended my first BARREtoned class yesterday and I was really impressed.

IMG_2329

Location:

BARREtoned studio is based in a fashionable Notting Hill area, within a close proximity from the Royal Oak, Westbourne Park and Notting Hill stations. I work in Westbourne Park so I was looking for a place to exercise before or after work so after discovering that the studio is located not far from me, I decided to give it a go and try their classes.

Facilities:

BARREtoned has 2 exercise studios (1 upstairs & 1 downstairs), reception where you can grab some water or snacks, shower rooms and lockers so you have all need in there.

Classes:

When I found out about BARREtoned studio I wanted to know how they differ from all other studios I’ve previously been a member of. What intrigued me was a claim on BARREtoned website that the classes can rapidly produce visibly toned muscles and increase the body’s ability to burn fat. In addition, BARREtoned workouts aim to tone and strengthen your entire body, with particular attention paid to improving your posture and balance.

BARREtoned classes are running throughout a day and range from a quick 45-minutes lunch classes to 1 hour full-body workout classes. They are suitable for all skill levels.

Yesterday, I attended a standard 1 hour morning class. BARREToned has quite a few different instructors-my class was lead by Qin.

IMG_2339

When I arrived, before my first class started, I bought some BARRE socks with and had a quick chat with the instructor. The instructor (Qin) explained what I should be expecting during the class and the concept behind BARREtoned. She was extremely friendly, smiley and made me feel welcomed and excited about my class.

The class was performed at the ballet barre and on mats. We were all using small controlled movements to work each muscle group to exhaustion. There was also a lot of stretching involved. At moments, my whole body was shaking and almost giving up but it felt great to push myself beyond my limits.

IMG_2335

Verdict:

If you are tired of your regular gym routine and classes then you should definitely register at BARREtoned studio and try one of their classes. Either a 45 / 60 minute high intensity, low impact, workout will target all the muscles (even the ones that you forgot about). I am astonished as I thought that I will be really sore today after my super intense workout yesterday but surprisingly I am all fine as during you are focusing on very small muscle groups and stretching them throughout the class.

The most important tip I can give you though is to have fun, enjoy it and try to exceed your limits. I will be definitely returning back and I am planning to join one of their workouts that take place on Wednesday evenings which are followed by a wine tasting.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, London Heathrow

IMG_1489

A couple of weeks ago, I was on a business trip and came back to London during late evening.  As I was flying for my skiing break in less than 8 hours from arriving back, I decided to stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Heathrow.

Location:

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Heathrow is located on a Bath Road in Hounslow. It is only 10 minutes taxi drive from London Heathrow Terminal 3 and around 15 min drive from terminal 5.

Atmosphere and Facilities:

The hotel has an informal atmosphere.

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Heathrow has a 24-hours reception, baggage storage room, restaurant and a room service. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property for an extra charge.

The room-service offering is quite limited. There wasn’t much to choose from so I ordered a burger. It was £16 pounds and honestly speaking I would never order it again. If you stay at this hotel then it might be worth checking their restaurant offering. Alternatively, you could walk to one of many restaurants available on the road.

The room had a simple, modern décor. The double bed was comfortable and spacious. My room also had a flat-screen TV, safe, mini-bar and blackout curtains and coffee & tea making facilities.

The bathroom also had a modern décor and some Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries were provided.

IMG_0100IMG_0102IMG_0099

Overall:

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Heathrow for anyone travelling from the Heathrow airport. It is located around 45-minutes drive from the central London so if you wish to do a bit of sightseeing then I would probably recommend you to stay somewhere more central.
